Mastering NLA Blending with MCX Super Animation Pro

Blending multiple animations together used to be a nightmare in Blender's NLA Editor. With MCX Super Animation Pro, we've brought a "Maya-style" masking workflow that allows you to combine movements (like running and attacking) with just a few clicks.

1. Preparation & Conditions

To ensure a perfect blend, make sure your NLA Editor meets the following requirements:

  • Two Active Tracks: You must have exactly two NLA tracks unmuted.
  • Track Order: The Base Track (e.g., Run cycle) should be at the bottom, and the Mask Track (e.g., Sword Slash) should be on top.
  • Object Mode: Ensure you are not in Tweak Mode (Tab) before applying the mask.
NLA Track Setup

Step 1: Arrange your Base and Mask tracks in the NLA Editor

2. Selecting the Mask Area

In the 9. NLA Blending section of the MCX panel, you will see the Select Mask Area options. This determines which bones from the upper track will override the lower track.

OptionDescription
Upper BodySpine, Chest, Neck, Head, and both Arms. Ideal for walking while aiming or attacking.
Left/Right ArmOnly the selected arm. Perfect for holding a shield or item while playing other animations.

Step 2: Choose your mask type and click Apply Professional Mask

3. Professional Fine-Tuning

Once applied, MCX creates two non-destructive tracks: _BLEND_BASE and _BLEND_MASK. You can now adjust the transition directly in the UI:

  • Fade In/Out: Smooth the transition when the mask starts or ends.
  • Track Positioning: You can grab the strips in the NLA Editor to time the slash exactly when you want.

The Final Step: BAKE

When you are satisfied with the result, hit BAKE TO FINAL ACTION. The addon will merge the blend into a single clean Action, delete the temporary tracks, and prepare your character for Export (FBX/GLB).
